Keurig 2.0 Won’t Turn On – How to Fix It?

Keurig 2.0 Won't Turn On

For a coffee aficionado, each cup of coffee has to be perfect. And to get that perfect cuppa each time, many depend on the Keurig 2.0 coffee machines. But what if your coffee machine simply refuses to turn on one fine morning?

Don’t fret! Your coffee machine is probably not turning on because of some issues with the power outlet.

Otherwise, there might be something wrong with the internal components of the machine. A bit of resetting can turn the device on if it is a minor trouble.

On that note, let’s delve deeper into why your Keurig 2.0 won’t turn on and how you can fix it.

Why Keurig 2.0 Won’t Turn On?

If your Keurig 2.0 won’t turn on, first ensure the cable is securely plugged in. Test the socket with another device; if it works, the issue lies with the Keurig.

Don’t forget the power switch at the back—a frequent oversight!

If the socket fails with other devices, try a different outlet and check your circuit breaker, as a flipped circuit might be the culprit.

And if you have tried everything and your Keurig is still unresponsive, you will have to blame it on the machine and its parts. Typically, when Keurig 2.0 does not turn on, the problem is with one of these components:

Power cord

The most common issue is with the power cord, whereby the wires inside are cut or disconnected. Maybe the cord has been bent in a way that the wires inside are damaged. Thus, they can’t carry enough power to turn the device on.

Switches and buttons

The problem can be with the switch on your Keurig 2.0. It might not be receiving the power properly due to its internal damage, which is preventing the device from turning on. Or, the issue can also be with the switch that turns the power on in the socket. You might need to get both the switches checked.

Control board

Think of the control board or circuit board as the coordinator between different parts of your device. If anything goes wrong in the control board, the other parts will not get the power to turn the machine on.

Thermal fuse

A thermal fuse helps to cut off the power supply to the device when there is a power surge. You need to replace the thermal fuse right after that or the machine will not turn on.

Thermostat

The internal temperature of the machine is regulated by the thermostat. On a good day, the thermostat will make sure the device does not overheat. But when it is damaged, it will prevent the machine from turning on.

How Do I Fix My Keurig That Won’t Turn On?

You might have heard that resetting the machine is the way to go when it does not turn on. Before you do that, let’s just try the basic way to turn Keurig 2.0 on.

So, unplug the device and plug that back once more. Now, press the power switch to see if the coffee machine starts working. Is it still not working?

Try another power outlet and press the power switch once more. Still doesn’t work? Well, if the machine continues to remain unresponsive, try the following methods to reset the device.

Basic resetting of Keurig 2.0 brewer

Basic resetting is all about disassembling and assembling a few parts of the device. So, you can try to open and close the k-cup pod holder. After that, you can remote the water reservoir before putting it back on. Now, check if your coffee machine is okay!

Advanced resetting of Keurig 2.0 brewer

The thing about Keurig 2.0 is that a basic reset that works on Keurig 1.0 is not of much help in this case. On the other hand, an advanced or complete reset seems a bit harder because of the computer-driven parts.

However, you can do it all by yourself following the steps mentioned below.

Step 1: Press both the cup buttons and the menu button

Start by pressing both the ‘small’ and ‘medium’ buttons at the same time and releasing them together. After this, press the ‘menu’ option three times.

Step 2: Check the display screen for command

As you triple press the menu button, the display clock will show ‘6:09.’ Now, press the same button once again and check the display screen. It should show ‘brew 0:00.’

Step 3: Keep holding the ‘medium’ cup option

At this point, press the ‘medium’ cup option. While you are holding down the button, press and release the ‘menu’ button. Then, keep holding the ‘medium’ cup button and start pressing and releasing the ‘small’ cup button.

Step 4: Plug and unplug the device

Now, let go of the ‘medium’ cup button and unplug the device. Plug and unplug the coffee machine at least twice to complete the resetting process. Finally, switch on your Keurig 2.0 and see if it is working.

Turn your Keurig 2.0 on

If your machine has been fixed now, here is how you should proceed to turn it on and make a cup of coffee.

Plug in the coffee machine into a working outlet and turn the electrical switch on.

Lift up its handle to fill the water tank with sufficient water.

Put the cap over the drip tray.

Now, turn the power button on to heat up the water in the tank.

Let the water heat up for a few minutes before placing the k-cup pod in the holder.

Select the amount of coffee (‘small’, ‘medium’ etc.) you want and hit the ‘brew’ button.

What Happens When The ‘Auto On’ Feature Does Not Work?

If you are worried that the auto on feature is not working on your Keurig 2.02, check the reservoir. It usually happens when there isn’t sufficient water there. In this situation, the auto brew also cancels when you move the carafe or the handle after turning the auto function on.

Does the reservoir have enough water and you did not move or shift the carafe or the handle? Maybe you did not press ‘save’ on the enable box. And if you have pressed ‘save’ as well, it’s time to get your device checked.

Why Does Keurig 2.0 Shuts Off Automatically?

Finally, you managed to turn your coffee machine on. But it starts to shut down automatically without any intervention from your side. There is no reason to be worried yet.

This is a common issue that occurs when the auto-timer option is on. All you need to do is to disable the ‘auto-off’ feature.

However, if you have a Keurig Mini, the device is going to turn itself off after ninety seconds of remaining inactive. There is no ‘auto off’ switch that you can disable in this model. In that case, you will have to power the machine on each time you want a cup of coffee.

If you have tried everything and your coffee machine still does not work, you might need to replace or repair some faulty internal parts. You can get in touch with the customer care of Keurig or call in the local repair professionals.
