Why Does My Keurig 2.0 Water Under Pressure?

Keurig 2.0 is the updated version of the original Keurig coffee machine. One can come across an issue of ‘water under pressure.’ This problem arises in the exit needle when it has been clogged with debris. 

All you have to do to solve this issue is clean out the debris using a straightened paper clip. However, if this problem takes place 2 to 3 times in a row, it becomes important to avail customer service right away. 

How To Fix Keurig 2.0 Water Under Pressure? 

1. Ensure Your Safety First

As you begin by finding a cure for ‘water under pressure,’ you must know your way around the appliance. The very first thing you should do is unplug the Keurig 2.0 from any power source and keep it completely away from electricity. 

Working with electricity while you are treating this problem can cause serious damage, sometimes fatal. 

Even if the coffee machine is unplugged, you may receive an electrical shock from the charge retained within the capacitors, located in the coffee machine. To avoid this, discharge all the capacitors.

2. Unclog The Exit Needle

If you wish to avoid the ‘water under pressure’ error from occurring, you must proceed with cleaning the exit needle. This will unclog the needle from the debris accumulated and will allow you to get rid of the problem.

3. Clean The Multiple Water Hoses

After descaling the machine, you will notice that there is a canister within the Keurig machine. 

4. Disable The Pressure Sensor

If you are still not being able to solve the problem, we advise you to disable the pressure sensor of the machine. Work on the machine while it is turned off and turn it around to locate the pressure sensor of the Keurig machine. You will come across a water hose. 

This water hose is responsible for carrying water to the circuit board. Just above it is the pressure sensor bearing six pins. Three pins are arranged on top, while the other three are located below. 

 If all of the above tactics for solving the problem of ‘water under pressure’ have failed, you must try disabling the pressure sensor. You will find some debris accumulated on the circuit board in between the pins. This debris may have been responsible for shorting out the pins above. 

In order to clean out all of that piled-up debris, use the Trial and Error method to short out the various pins located on the pressure sensor. 

You will notice that as you short out the first two pins located just above the water hose in the circuit board, the error will automatically be cleared. 

 The error gets cleared up as the pressure sensor begins reading a low voltage that coincides with the normal pressure rate all the time. Afterward, you come across water leaking from the pressure sensor. If you face this issue, disconnect the tubing to the pressure sensor and tie it off to mend the leak.

Risks Involved In Disabling The Pressure Sensor

Dealing directly with the appliance can bear several risks. It is dangerous to work with electricity if you are not properly trained to do so. Even if the device is unplugged from any power source and is turned off, the risk is not minimal here. 

There is some limited charge retained in the appliance that can cause serious damage to someone who is working without proper supervision. 

Since all capacitors retain some level of charge within them, it is crucial to note that all of them are safely discharged before you take a look at the appliance. 

 Also, trying out disabling your pressure sensor bears extra risks of getting hit by electricity because of the potential spoilage of water from either the heating canister or the water reservoir. 

How To Discharge A Capacitor To Ensure Safety?

1. Remove The Capacitor From Power Source

If you have not removed the capacitor from the power source it is connected to, do it now. Make sure that it is not connected to any power source.

2. Set The Multimeter To The Highest DC Voltage Setting 

The voltage ratings vary in the case of different multimeters. So, in order to get the highest voltage setting that your device can permit, turn the dial in the center of the millimeter. 

3. Connect The Multimeter Probes To The Posts On The Capacitor

You will find that the capacitor of your device has two posts throbbing out of the top. Connect one post of the millimeter to the Red lead and the other to the Black lead. As you read what is displayed on your multimeter, make sure to hold the leads together on the posts. 

4. A Reading Higher Than 10 Volts Is Acceptable

The multimeter you are working on varies between voltage bearing a single digit to even hundreds of volts. Make sure that the voltage reading appears to be at ten, as a voltage higher than that is going to give out electrical shocks. 

5. Never Come In Contact With The Terminals

Coming in contact with a capacitor that is charged can be fatal. So, never touch the capacitor with the terminals. Instead, hold the sides of its body to steer clear of any serious shocks. 

6. Use Insulated Screwdriver With No Damage Signs

You should always go for screwdrivers with plastic or rubber handles, as this forms friction. Never go for screwdrivers that have cracks, tears, or breaks, as this can allow the flow of electricity to pass up to your body. 

7. Get Hold Of The Capacitor On The Base 

It is important to have full control over the capacitor as you are discharging it. For this, grab the lower end of the cylindrical body with the hand you do not use much. Keep your fingers away from the top where the two posts lie. 

8. Place The Screwdrivers Across Both Terminals

By holding the capacitor in such a way that both the terminals point in the direction of the ceiling, hold the insulated screwdriver with another hand. Touch the screwdriver to keep both posts together in order to discharge the capacitor. 

As the electrical discharges in the capacitor, you will get to hear and see it in the form of an electrical spark. In order to ensure that this works, make sure that the screwdriver is coming in contact with both the terminals.

There are many ways to solve the problem of ‘water under pressure’ in Keurig 2.0. So, the most suitable way to mend this issue is by disabling the pressure sensor and clearing the debris in the pins located on the circular board.
