You’ve just woken up, still rubbing sleep from your eyes, and all you crave is a smooth cup of Nespresso. But wait – why is your trusty machine flashing an orange light?

Before you let this unexpected twist sour your morning mood, let’s figure out the ‘why’ behind this rebellious glow and, more importantly, how to get things brewing smoothly again!

Why Nespresso Blinking Orange Light?

Your favorite Nespresso machine might blink orange light for the following reasons:

  • It needs to be descaled.
  • There’s no water in the reservoir.
  • Your coffee maker is overheated.
  • It needs to be cleaned.

Now, given below are some of the common variations of orange light blinking in your Nespresso machine. We have also recommended the steps to troubleshoot the issue. Take a look at this guide to see whether the steps can make your coffee maker work fine and make your mornings bright and cheery.

Nespresso Orange Light Blinking Twice

When the orange light on your Nespresso blinks twice, it is an indication that you need to clean it. You can follow these steps to solve the issue:

Step 1. Open the head of your Nespresso to eject all the used capsules. Use a paper towel dampened with hot water to clean the machine.

Gently run the towel around the piece spinning on the underside of the open head. You should also gently wipe the area around which the coffee capsules remain.

Step 2. Once you clean the machine, you should empty the water tank. Remember to rinse it well before pouring in fresh water.

Step 3. You should also rinse the cup support well. Place a 14 fl oz or a larger cup below the coffee spout.

Step 4. Empty your Nespresso capsule container. Rinse it with cold water before attaching the capsule container.

Step 5. Close the head and place it back. Turn it left to put it in the lock position.

Step 6. Initiate the cleaning cycle by pushing the button thrice within 2 seconds. You will see a flash, and the water will start coming out within two minutes. It will continue for around 5 minutes, and three cycles of water will be pumped through during the cycle.

If the orange lights keep blinking, you should try holding the button for a minimum of 7 seconds. If the light still flashes, running the descaling process is a good idea.

Nespresso Blinking Orange Light After Descaling

A common reason your Nespresso machine might start flashing an orange light even after descaling is that you accidentally put it on the descaling mode.

Sometimes the light might flash quickly and persist for a prolonged period. In that case, there’s a high chance that you have put your machine back in descale mode.

You can quit the descaling mode on your Nespresso machine using the following steps:

Step 1. Press and hold the flashing buttons for around six to eight seconds. You can let the buttons go when the machine starts beeping clearly.

Step 2. The machine will come out of the descaling mode on its own after you release the buttons. If it doesn’t work, there might be something wrong with the machine.

You should immediately seek professional assistance.

Nespresso Orange Blinking Light Won’t Stop

The pulsing orange light from your Nespresso machine indicates that it’s overheated. Excessive usage often causes the orange light to blink continuously. In this scenario, you need to let your Nespresso machine cool down for a few minutes.

The steps to solve this issue are quite simple:

Step 1. You will have to press the machine button for 3 seconds to turn it off.

Step 2. Wait for around 20 to 30 minutes for the machine to cool down.

Step 3. The machine might continue to blink orange light even after you give it adequate time to cool down. In that case, your machine is probably in descaling mode. Press and hold the button for 7 seconds to make the machine stop pulsing orange light.
